Jairo Arcila Decaf

About the farmer

Jairo Arcila is a third-generation coffee grower from Quindío, Colombia. He is married to Luz Helena Salazar and they have two children, Carlos and Felipe Arcila – who are co-founders of Cofinet. Jairo’s first job was with Colombia’s second largest exporter, working as mill manager for over 40 years until he retired in 2019. He bought his first coffee farm, Finca La Esmeralda, in 1987. There he planted his first Caturra lot.

Jairo Arcila was fortunate enough to be able to earn money from coffee production on his farm in addition to his full-time job. With his savings, Jairo slowly managed to buy five more farms. La Esmeralda was followed by Villarazo, Mazatlan, Santa Monica, Maracay and then Buenos Aires. Now, during the harvest season, he is able to provide jobs for the locals, creating an economic impact in the community. He has gained great insight and expertise from his sons in the picking, sorting and processing of his coffees. This insight has empowered Jairo and given him the tools to showcase fantastic coffees with amazing regional profiles.

Jairo Arcila’s passion for quality and innovation shines through in every aspect of his coffee production. From meticulous farming practices to unique processing methods, he leaves no stone unturned in his quest for excellence. Whether you’re a seasoned coffee connoisseur or a curious enthusiast, Jairo Arcila’s Castillo Natural Decaf is sure to captivate your taste buds and elevate your coffee experience to new heights.

About the process & the farm

Indulge in the exquisite flavours of Jairo Arcila’s Castillo Natural Decaf, a coffee crafted with the utmost care and precision. Hand-picked with a keen eye for ripeness and meticulously sorted to remove defects, these beans are then sun-dried on raised beds in temperature-controlled conditions. What sets this coffee apart is its unique decaffeination process, which uses sugar cane and water to extract the caffeine while enhancing the natural sweetness and preserving the coffee’s unique characteristics.

This microlot is 100% Castillo, a variety developed by the Federación Nacional de Cafeteros, known for its productivity and resistance to leaf rust. It is grown in the pristine region of Armenia, Buenos Aires, Quindio, at altitudes of 1200 – 1700m.
